You are the closest to the experience of God
That you could ever truly perceive or understand
So in each moment endeavor to be like him
Sharing peace and tranquility where pain has shed
Tandem’d with Refugee Network International
A brilliant neighbor, a twin in name to thee
led us on a journey, service to those in need
The GSS team, smooth combo like the dream
bag three sandwiches, utensil, pasta and a salad
put up numbers to remind others
that God’s way is valid
A service day to captivate the court
PGA: “poorest get assistance” Tour for the cohort

We are made in the image of our creator. Whether you find yourself to be religious or not, it is unmistakable that we as people are the closest interaction to experiencing our creator. This is not due to our personally held beliefs, but rather the residual impact and reaction stimulated in others due to our actions.
Therefore, in each moment we must strive to embody the greatness, kindness and charitable nature exuded by the universe. We are gifted with life. We are gifted with air to breathe. We are gifted with another day to awake and experience. Many of us are gifted with places to sleep, food to eat and garments to clothe us. However, there are many more who are not gifted with these latter necessities.
Instead, the less fortunate of our population live scarred with the pain of neglect and the chaos of attempting to sort out this enigmatic world we live in. It is a duty, a cross to bear if you will, for the fortunate to bring peace where others have felt pain and tranquility where others have experienced chaos. These others are often looked down upon, yet if we examined our own life choices, we could easily envision a spiraling path to their same status. The same can be said of examining the choices of our predecessors who positioned us to live the lives we currently navigate.
The Manship Global Sports Showcase worked in tandem with Refugee Network International, led by an exuberant young man sharing my same name: Charles. We followed their lead and assisted in their journey to help the needy on the streets of London. I likened our foreign prowess and production to that of the 1992 USA Olympics “Dream Team.” As this team had been the first to integrate NBA players into its conduct, this was the Refugee Network International’s first time integrating such stars of the illustrious Louisiana State University.
We created various bagged lunches. Each held three sandwiches, utensils, a choice of salad or fruit and an entree of pasta or meat over rice. We also distributed clothing and hygiene equipment. The group could be said to have “put up numbers” as we generously covered several blocks of London to gift these necessities that life had not bestowed upon them. Rather, it is more appropriate to say that life bestowed these gifts upon them through us. Our everyday actions are the catalysts for the progression of everyone’s futures and lives.
To share and give comfort to others is the way of the Lord. I pray that in this journey we have managed to remind these people of this. May they see God within our actions.
I conclude this poem with a herald to an earlier excursion with the Professional Golf Association Tour. I reengineered this acronym to convey the deeper dichotomy of our mission overseas. Not only were we here to report on sports, but to ingratiate ourselves into the culture in a positive manner.
